Meg Cabot é uma autora que sempre tem um jeito único de surpreender os seus leitores. Quando essa série de YA de época começou a ser lançada no Brasil, eu não coloquei muita fé. Eu li Victoria e o Patife e até achei o enredo divertido, mas com muitos pontos que me incomodaram. Mesmo assim, resolvi dar uma segunda chance a Cabot e ver o que ela entregava em Nicola e o Visconde, e adivinha? Eu tive uma leitura muito divertida, com diálogos maravilhosos e uma personagem principal que é impossível de você não se apaixonar.

O ponto forte de Nicola e o Visconde é, justamente, Nicola. Eu gostei muito da forma como Cabot construiu a personagem como uma jovem independente financeiramente, que não está em busca de um marido, mas sim de amor. E é justamente o que ela pensa que acontece quando ela conhece o Visconde, um homem tão lindo que ela chama de “Deus”. Mas Nicola ainda é adolescente, conhece pouco sobre o amor e apesar do seu temperamento forte, ela também consegue julgar mal algumas situações. E quem nunca fez isso na vida, não é mesmo?

“- E daí? – perguntou Nicola. Ela realmente detestava charadas, e aquela conversa estava começando a parecer uma das grandes. – Sinceramente, Harold, o quer dizer com tudo isso? Está sendo muito entediante.”

A narrativa deste segundo livro é deliciosa. Cabot investiu muito em criar diálogos divertidos e explorar a nossa heroína além do romance do livro. Eu adorei ver que Nicola era uma jovem cheia de habilidades que, conseguia transformar um vestido em farrapos em algo que parecia ter saído de uma loja parisiense. Também gostei do fato de ela não ser tão ambiciosa e valorizar muito as amizades a sua volta. A relação dela com a família Sheridan foi uma das coisas que eu mais gostei na leitura, pois deu a sensação de que ela os via como uma segunda família.

O plot principal de Nicola e o Visconde também é muito mais interessante do que o primeiro livro. O romance acontece em segundo plano, ao longo dos capítulos, sem colocar pressão no casal principal. Todo o foco da nossa heroína está em preservar a única herança deixada por seus pais a todo o custo e eu gostei desse novo ponto de vista no romance, principalmente porque são esses acontecimentos que forçam a personagem a ver o mundo de uma forma mais racional e a amadurecer. E nós ainda temos algumas cenas de ação que são muito boas, eu tenho que admitir.

“Bem, Nathaniel Sheridan ficava realmente muito elegante num terno escuro. Não podia negar. Perguntou-se se podia escrever aquilo na carta para Vovó. Ou será que era mais importante mencionar que ele se formara em primeiro lugar na faculdade de matemática em Oxford?”

Eu gostei bastante da forma como Nat e Nicola se apaixonam. Acho que pelo fato de ela estar obcecada e procurando o amor numa fantasia só torna a realidade do relacionamento deles ainda mais bonita. Nat está sempre implicando com Nicola, mas de uma forma positiva e, ele não hesita em alertá-la quando percebe que ela vai cair em uma armadilha. O romance deles é construído em cima de uma amizade de anos e muito carinho, então quando as coisas começam a caminhar entre eles, o “amor” soa muito mais natural.

Honestamente? Eu não achei que Meg Cabot fosse conseguir me conquistar com essa série, mas depois de terminar a leitura de Nicola e o Visconde, eu realmente espero que ela continue investindo em YA de época. Eu tive os melhores diálogos que eu poderia querer neste livro. Nicola tem uma língua muito afiada e as situações em que ela se mete me fizeram rir até a barriga doer. Verdade seja dita, eu estava mesmo sentindo falta de ter uma leitura mais leve, e Cabot me proporcionou isso de uma forma muito maravilhosa.

Tenho para mim que qualquer leitor de romance de época acharia essa leitura no mínimo divertida. É claro, não temos as mesmas emoções que num romance de Sarah MacLean, mas Meg Cabot compensa com personagens bem-humorados e situações inusitadas que te prendem desde o primeiro capítulo. Eu realmente me surpreendi com o quanto eu gostei desta leitura e como eu estou ansiosa para que a editora traga outros livros da autora nessa mesma linha. Às vezes tudo o que você precisa é de um romance fofinho para fazer do seu dia mais feliz!

  4. Oi Débora! O único livro da Meg Cabot que li foi Diário da princesa e gostei bastante da escrita dela, foi bem divertida. Gostei da premissa, parece ser bem legal e gostosa. A capa é bem fofinha e vou anotar aqui a dica, por que ainda não li romance de época com uma pegada divertida e isso atiçou minha curiosidade. Beijos!

    Ah, a Meg tem um dom de conquistar os leitores em qualquer tipo de livro que escreva. Adorei o nome da personagem “Nicola” (o sobrenome dela também é bem sugestivo né? rsrs) , e sei que a história é baseada em orgulho e preconceito, deve ser bem divertido ler.

  9. Já ouvi falar muito de Meg Cabot e tenho até vergonha de dizer que ainda não li nada da autora. Minhas leituras geralmente giram em torno da minha zona de conforto, e romance não é exatamente parte dela. Mas esse livro me chamou atenção por vários fatores que tu destacou na resenha. Primeiro porque a protagonista é uma garota forte, independente e capaz, fugindo totalmente do estereótipo de mocinha frágil e indefesa típico aos romances. Segundo porque o humor foi bem explorado não só no enredo, mas também nos diálogos do livro, o que eu acho que torna a leitura muito mais leve e fluida. Além disso, o romance entre o casal protagonista percorre um curso natural, que o leitor pode acompanhar ao longo do livro, e eu acho isso muito mais crível do que aquele tipo de atração e amor que acontece do nada, e que a gente precisa engolir em algumas histórias. Achei a capa uma fofura só, também!

  12. Não gostei muito dos 4 livros da Meg que li, mas essa série de época fiquei interessada.
    Principalmente por Nicola, porque eu li numa resenha que é baseado em Orgulho e Preconceito, que é um dos meus prefes da vida, então, né, já quero!
