As Damas perfeitas de Nahra Mestre ganharam o meu coração de leitora de romance de época quando eu li A Marquesa pela primeira vez. As personagens de Nahra não são nada parecidas com qualquer protagonista de época que eu tenha conhecido até hoje e, foi justamente essa diferença que fez com que eu entrasse de cabeça na série Damas Perfeitas e me apaixonasse completamente pelo universo criado pela autora.

E como eu gosto muito de compartilhar as minhas paixões literárias com vocês, eu entrei em contato com a Nahra para que a gente pudesse conversar um pouco sobre o seu processo criativo e para que vocês pudessem conhecer mais sobre a mulher que criou esse romance de época incrível, que tem tudo para ganhar os leitores do gênero.

Oi, Nahra! Muito obrigada por tirar um tempinho para conversar com a gente sobre a sua série Damas Perfeitas. E para começar, eu queria saber como que surgiu essa ideia de começar a escrever dentro do gênero histórico e quais foram as suas primeiras dificuldades?

Primeiramente gostaria de agradecer o convite para essa entrevista. Assim como muitos, eu também tinha preconceito com romances de época, comecei a ler no final do ano passado e me apaixonei. Comecei a me aprofundar nas pesquisas sobre a Era Vitoriana e me vi caída de amores. Meu maior desafio foi relatar a era vitoriana dando destaque a mulheres fortes da época e não a mocinhas que tomavam chá e bordavam.

Eu adorei a protagonista de A Marquesa, ela é realmente diferente de todas as protagonistas que eu já li. O que te inspirou na hora de escrever a Sarah e o que torna essa personagem tão única?

Gosto de relatar personagens com defeitos e qualidades. Acho que minha inspiração vem do ser humano, que é passível de erros e acertos, talvez isso que nos torne únicos também.

Eu lembro de a gente ter conversado muito sobre a questão do romance e eu queria que você me contasse um pouco da forma como você resolveu trabalhar essa questão dentro dos seus personagens e porque você quis fazer isso de uma forma diferente do que estamos acostumados.

Nem todo relacionamento é um conto de fadas, a maioria de fato não é, talvez lermos romances onde os personagens aprendem aos poucos a se amar e conviver de uma forma saudável, seja bem mais real do que os contos de fadas.

Damas Perfeitas é uma série que vai falar de mulheres que se destacam na sociedade por não seguirem as convenções. Como que você chegou a conclusão de que você queria escrever personagens assim e quais pontos na sua vida influenciaram na criação dessas mulheres?

Eu, Nahra, não acredito em padrões (acho que isso justifica muito). Minha grande inspiração foi a Rainha Vitória, ela sem dúvida foi uma mulher a frente do seu tempo que deixou marcas pela eternidade. Pesquisando a fundo descobri que até mesmo na Era Vitoriana existiam duas vidas, uma na sociedade e uma fora dela.

Eu sou completamente apaixonada pela Marie, inclusive, muito obrigada por ter lançado A Cortesã, eu estava morta de ansiedade. De todas as personagens, eu acredito que ela tenha a história mais complicada por causa da posição social da qual ela vem. Como que essa personagem surgiu para você e o que você pode contar para os leitores do blog sobre ela?

Sobre ela ser mais complicada eu discordo, ainda teremos muitas surpresas ao longo da série. A ideia de Marie foi descontruir estereótipos. O tempo todo na série vamos ver questões do século 19 que ainda são muitos latentes em pleno século 21. Marie me surpreendeu porque apesar de ter crescido em um bordel ela era uma mulher inocente.

Eu lembro que quando eu comecei a ler A Marquesa, você me disse que eu provavelmente não gostaria muito do Thomas. Porque você acha que alguns leitores têm essa resistência com o nosso mocinho? E o que te inspirou a fazer um herói romântico tão diferente?

Existe um gosto popular por mocinhos salvadores. Por uma questão de construção narrativa eu precisei que ele ficasse em segundo plano boa parte da trama, entretanto ao longo da série vamos ver uma evolução dele no que tange a percepção de vida, a ideia sempre foi dar destaque as mulheres mas teremos mocinhos tão atuantes quanto elas. E como cada pessoa é única, acredito que Thomas não tem esse perfil.

Você pode nos contar qual foi a cena mais difícil de A Marquesa que você escreveu até agora?

Da Marquesa não sei, acho que ele foi todo difícil, já que eu nunca tinha escrito um romance de época.  Mas da Cortesã sem dúvida foi a cena do Phllip, Marie e Viollet juntos no quarto.

Nós já conversamos muito sobre a questão de ser autor nacional no Brasil, mas eu acho importante perguntar: qual a visão que você tem do mercado editorial hoje e como é a sua experiência enquanto autora nacional?

Eu descobri que ser escritor não é só escrever. Seja você de uma grande editora ou independente, o trabalho vai muito além de criar histórias. Você tem que saber um pouco de tudo e trabalhar arduamente. Muitas pessoas enxergam uma glamourização que não existe na vida das autoras, requer muito estudo, muito trabalho, entender todo o processo do ciclo do livro e acima de tudo tratar com respeito e carinho os leitores. Vejo um mercado em transição que ainda é difícil dizer como será daqui a dois anos.

Escrever um livro não é um trabalho fácil. E sim, nós já estabelecemos que é um trabalho como qualquer outro aqui no blog. Por isso, eu queria muito saber como que é o seu processo de escrita e como você se organiza para entregar os seus capítulos, revisar e fazer todo o processo de publicação.

Primeiro passo é uma faxina geral, pintando alguma coisa, enquanto isso as ideias surgem. Ainda tenho dificuldades em colocar no papel a avalanche de ideias que vem na minha cabeça, mas estou tentando. Escrever é muito natural, eu só preciso de silencio e tranquilidade. Eu costumo planejar as cenas antes de escrevê-las e minhas betas me ajudam muito nesse processo.

Pergunta de leitora curiosa: como você lida com o bloqueio criativo? Já aconteceu com você enquanto estava escrevendo algum dos seus livros?

Eu não acredito em bloqueio criativo, acho que são pausas, todo processo precisa de pausa, se não consigo escrever é porque não tem o que ser escrito, os personagens possuem vida própria e o narrador só relata isso. Eu não surto, só espero, uma hora volta.

O que você mais gosta em ser uma escritora? E o que você diria para nós, meros mortais, que estão começando essa jornada?

Em primeiro lugar, sou gente como a gente, mero mortal igual a todo mundo (risos). A melhor parte, sem dúvida, é o momento que antecede a escrita na qual os personagens conversam na sua cabeça e a parte da escrita que é o “descarrego”, a viúva me ensinou que editar pode ser tão prazeroso quanto, mas ainda estou caminhando. Sobre a dica não me sinto apta, mas eu diria que estudar é o primeiro passo para tudo. Tenho uma frase que eu levo como lema de vida: Não pare de sonhar!

Eu espero que vocês tenham gostado da entrevista e conhecido um pouco mais do trabalho da Nahra. Eu confesso que antes de conhecer o trabalho dela, eu ainda não tinha me apaixonado por nenhum romance de época nacional e a escrita dela mudou isso completamente para mim.
